Two surprising additions to the ever-growing list of Mel and Sue's Great British Bake Off replacements have arrived in the form of The Chuckle Brothers.

Ever since the presenting duo announced they would remain with the BBC following the show's shock acquisition by Channel 4, concerned fans have been feverishly attempting to predict who could take over.

Barry and Paul Chuckle, best remembered for their 90s kids TV show ChuckleVision, fuelled the rumour which began circulating on social media by refusing to 'deny or confirm.'

In a tongue-in-cheek statement released to Good Morning Britain, the Chuckle Brothers said: “We normally like to keep things confidential, but as this rumour is out on social media we would like to say, that we can’t deny or confirm that we have been approached to host The Bake Off! However, we do know a lot about custard creams, cakes and biscuits.”

Twitter reacted accordingly.

Yesterday saw judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry break their silence over future plans; the former will move to Channel 4 while the latter has pledged her allegiance to the Beeb.

In a statement, Berry said: “My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.

"I am just sad for the audience who may not be ready for change, I hope they understand my decision."

The BBC lost the rights to broadcast the hit culinary show after Love Productions, which makes the programme, reportedly asked for four times the previous amount of money.
