FXX and Always Sunny released a Making a Murderer-style trailer for Season 12’s fifth outing, in which Dennis (Glenn Howerton) finds himself accused of – spoiler alert – the murder of Maureen Ponderosa.
The episode in question will air next Wednesday, February 1 on FXX, but judge for yourself in the trailer above.
It’s hard to say if Always Sunny will ever permanently lean into these long-running theories like Mac’s sexuality, Dennis’ serial-killer tendencies or Charlie’s illiteracy, but in the meantime, so reads the “Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer” synopsis: An episode filmed in the true crime style of Making a Murderer and The Jinx which begins with 911 call: A cat-woman formerly known as Maureen Ponderosa has been found dead in an alley and Dennis is the prime suspect.
After twelve years on the air, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia knows how to play its well-honed characterizations with a little topical flair. And if we’re going to look into the whole “Dennis Reynolds is a murderer” thing, you can bet that the resurgence of true crime documentaries was the way to go, as seen in Season 12’s “Making Dennis Reynolds a Murderer” trailer.
