While the late Carrie Fisher broke ground in her role as Princess Leia in the original trilogy, the Star Wars franchise has only grown stronger in its portrayal of female characters with Daisy Ridley as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso in the first anthology film Rogue One and Ahsoka Tano in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
The animated canon miniseries, which will air on YouTube and Disney Channel starting on July 10, 2017, will feature sixteen three-minute episodes taking place around all eras of the Star Wars universe, and focusing on the “everyday heroism” of female characters like Leia, Jyn, Rey, Sabine and Ahsoka.
