The film appearances racked up by Stan Lee – while plentiful due to his cameos in every new Marvel film – probably only comprise 20 seconds of screen time.
It was until his Forties that Lee co-created The Fantastic Four, a move that kick-started Marvel comics leading to the creation of characters including Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk and the X-Men.
Lee, original name Stanley Lieber, was born in 1922 and began work in the comic book publishing world at the age of 17.
Now 93, the writer is a vibrant force behind the films featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe including Captain America; Civil War and the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.
