Speaking to ComingSoon (via DenOfGeek), he said “the next one is set in the 90s”, following on from X-Men: First Class (set in the 60s) X-Men: Days Of Future Past (70s), and X-Men: Apocalypse (80s). What isn’t clear is whether he is referring to the upcoming New Mutants, directed by Josh Boon, or another X-Men film featuring the already established cast.
The reception to Fox’s latest superhero blockbuster, X-Men Apocalypse, has been somewhat mixed, the critics’ consensus being rather ‘meh’.
In other X-Men news, the upcoming third solo Wolverine film has begun filming and has been confirmed to have an R-Rating, following the success of Deadpool.
However, while one reviewer called it a “franchise-killing disaster”, a sequel is already definitely in the works, with writer and producer Simon Kinberg confirming the next film will continue the series’ gradual progression through the decades.
