Following 12 Years a Slave, McQueen began work on HBO series Codes of Conduct which was shelved in February.
It’s been almost three years since filmmaker Steve McQueen’s affecting drama 12 Years a Slave won a Best Picture Oscar, but only now had he decided what his next feature will be; Widows, a female-led heist thriller he’ll co-write with Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn.
Viola Davis will star as one of the film’s four leads; reports suggest that McQueen approached Jennifer Lawrence to appear but scheduling conflicts meant she had to pass.
Earlier this year, she appeared in DC mashup Suicide Squad as Amanda Waller, the intelligence operative tasked with assembling the ragtag bunch of villains.
