Elsewhere, holiday flicks Elf (No. 3), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (No. 5), Fatman (No. 9, up from No. 20 last week), Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch (No. 10), Home Alone (No. 11), The Polar Express (No. 13), and A Christmas Story (No. 19) continued to dominate the list, while TV series The Office: Seasons 1-9 (No. 6), Friends: Seasons 1-10 (No. 12) and Game of Thrones: Seasons 1-8 (No. 15) jostled for remaining positions.
The only other newbies on the list were The Undoing and Iron Mask, which debuted at No. 18 and No. 20, respectively.
The victory is made more satisfying as Frodo & Co. stood atop the mighty Harry Potter, whose own 8-part series landed at No. 2.
Oh, and The Hobbit Trilogy wasn’t far behind in the No. 7 spot.
