For the first time since 2000, a Scream film has topped the domestic box office.
Scream’s take was considerably more than Scream 4’s paltry $18 million opening back in 2011, actually close to its $38 million total domestic box office, and more on par with the openings for Scream 2 ($32.9 million in 1997) and Scream 3 ($34.7 million in 2000).
The animated sequel collected another $11 million over the 4-day frame, despite being available on PVOD, and has earned an impressive $122.1 million after four weeks.
Again, this is all without China where the film has yet to — and may never — open.
