Historically, Star Wars films have never been anything but massive box office success stories, but Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a unique risk for Disney.
Variety is now reporting that in its 14 days in the box office, Rogue One has already hit a domestic take of $375.2 million, besting the majority of its peers in 2016.
While Rogue One, predictably, isn’t doing the same level of business as The Force Awakens (which itself set an all-time domestic box office record), it has still made a very solid name for itself, dominating in the box office since its release on December 16th.
Episode VII: The Force Awakens was a natural extension of the property, but this year’s spinoff film had to get by on the universe alone, with no classic returning characters in major roles.
