Whilst things may not have worked out on The Good Dinosaur, every billion dollar franchise starts with a single movie and without taking risks on new ideas, the next Toy Story will never be uncovered.
It’s also worth remembering that the company’s other recent original movie, Inside Out, was a huge success.
Unfortunately, the movie has already been met with criticism from the Mexican-American community due to an attempt to trademark the project’s original title: ‘Día de los Muertos’.
Given the failure of The Good Dinosaur compared to their past output, Pixar will be looking to Coco to succeed critically and commercially and it’s certainly a welcome move to continue on with original movies in spite of that setback.
