Ritchie hasn’t had too many box office struggles in the past: previous film The Man from U.N.C.L.E. fared well enough to generate discussion of a sequel and preceding that were his two successful Sherlock Holmes films which starred Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law, who also appears in King Arthur.
Guy Ritchie’s new fantasy epic King Arthur: Legend of the Sword has become the year’s first box office flop after takings even lower than the underwhelming figures projected earlier this week.
King Arthur also stars Charlie Hunnam and features a cameo from David Beckham which has been derided by critics.
The film currently holds a 27% on review-aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes.
