With Alan Cumming officially cast in the Doctor Who franchise as James I, some may wonder if that rules him out of ever playing the Doctor.
If The BBC really wants Cumming to play the Doctor down the line, there’s precedent in actors playing multiple roles that wouldn’t make his appearance as James I an issue.
Of course, new showrunner Chris Chibnall has proven again and again since taking over that he’s doing things differently than Steven Moffat did during his run, so who knows what the new rules are?
Not really, as the series cast Peter Capaldi in the role following his guest-starring stint on the show and also cast Karen Gillan as a companion after her appearing in a bit part.
