Wan also directed the two films in The Conjuring series, the first of which heavily featured the doll “Annabelle” which has gone on to be featured in two spin-off movies.
He followed up the 2004 hit Saw (which itself featured a creepy doll) with Dead Silence, a Hammer Horror throwback all about haunted ventriloquist dummies.
Blum and Wan previously worked together on the Insidious franchise, the first two of which Wan directed and the later two which he produced alongside Blum. This isn’t the first time that Wan has been involved with creepy doll movies, in fact they’re a staple of his career.
The 32-year-old star was last seen in the film world in Richard Shepard’s Netflix psychological thriller The Perfection alongside Dear White People star Logan Browning, which received generally positive reviews from critics.
