The original Legally Blonde debuted in theaters in 2001, with Witherspoon starring as unlikely Harvard Law student Elle Woods.
The success led to a number of sequels and offshoots, starting with 2003’s Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, also starring Witherspoon.
Witherspoon will serve as an executive producer alongside creator/showrunner Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky and Marc Platt.
It moved to Broadway in 2007 with Legally Blonde: The Musical, with Laura Bell Bundy as Elle; MTV aired a reality competition series the following year seeking the best musical theater actress to succeed Bundy in the role.
