The DNA of The Godfather is all over Black Panther, so it seems logical that Ryan Coogler would want to show the film to Francis Ford Coppola before releasing the final cut.
Given The Godfather franchise’s similar use of past sins as storytelling devices, it makes quite a bit of sense to know that Coppola felt a notable connection to that scene and the way Coogler made that subplot play out — to the point that Coppola wanted to see that scene again immediately after watching the film.
Coppola’s favorite scene takes place when T’Challa learns of the true origins of Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) as Wakandan royalty.
He confronts Zuri about T’Chaka’s mistakes in Oakland decades earlier when he murdered Killmonger’s father in order to save Zuri after confronting his brother about his treachery.
