The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced a record-breaking 928 new members in an increased push for diversity.
The industry professionals included in the latest batch of invitees are 49% female and 38% people of color.
The basic requirement for members is that they must have “demonstrated exceptional achievement in the field of theatrical motion pictures”.
Star Wars breakout Daisy Ridley, Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnino and Beasts of the Southern Wild nominee Quvenzhané Wallis are also included.
