The film was first shown at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam and South by Southwest, before receiving its UK premiere at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, where Beecham won Best Performance in a British Feature Film.
Daphne marks the debut of Scottish director Peter Mackie Burns, with Hail, Caesar!’s Emily Beecham as the titular lead, in a film which has already made a splash at several film festivals.
Daphne tells the story of 31-year-old Londoner (Emily Beecham) who manages to capture a modern slice of contemporary anxiety: swinging wildly between an image of success and confidence, to a cycle of impulse and self-destruction.
A British romantic comedy of sorts, but with the refreshing twist we all need.
