The high-concept project marks Abrams’ return to TV having created Felicity, Alias, Fringe and game-changing mystery drama Lost, and will fit seamlessly into HBO’s schedules once ratings-puller Game of Thrones draws to a close in 2019.
J.J. Abrams is returning to television with a brand new series that’s been picked up by HBO.
HBO’s acquisition sees Abrams follow in the footsteps of Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof whose drama The Leftovers – which concluded in 2017 – is considered one of the greatest TV shows in recent memory.
The Force Awakens director Abrams – who is producing new Cloverfield film God Particle – will return to the Star Wars franchise for Episode IX.
