Directors Guild of America announce 80 best directed films of the last 80 years - only one female director selected

According to the Directors Guild of America, nearly every top film of the last 80 years has been directed by a man.

In their 80 best-directed films of the last 80 years, the film-makers’ union featured only one film directed by a woman: 2009’s Oscar-winner The Hurt Locker by Kathryn Bigelow.

2,189 guild members voted, with Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather topping the list, closely followed by Orson Welles’ Citizen Kane.
