The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that the Disney+ streaming service has entered active development on a TV series adaptation of the acclaimed book series from Serena Valentino giving the Disney villains the spotlight.
Scripted by Quantico‘s Michael Seitzman, the series, which has reportedly been in the works for months, will follow classic villains The Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Ursula from The Little Mermaid and the witch from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in a manner similar to the long-running ABC fantasy drama Once Upon a Time.
Disney+ is also developing a series adaptation of the Disney Channel hit film franchise High School Musical and the 2000 romantic dramedy High Fidelity, along with a live-action remake of the studio’s classic love story Lady and the Tramp starring Tessa Thompson in the lead voice roles.
Seitzman has also signed on to produce the series through the ABC-based Maniac Productions and will be distributed through ABC Signature Studios, who have also produced the Showtime dramedy SMILF, the Hulu adaptation of Marvel’s Runaways and the Freeform adaptation of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger and Freeform’s Grown-ish, the acclaimed spin-off of the hit ABC comedy Black-ish.
