Per Deadline, that’s the third-biggest second weekend for a September release following It ($60.1 million) and It Chapter Two ($39.6 million).
Moviegoers continued to show love and support for Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, lifting the action pic to $35.7 million (-53%) over its second weekend.
Not fairing as well was James Wan’s Malignant, which generated solid reviews but only managed $5.57 million from 3,485 theaters.
The gory horror flick also earned a paltry “C” grade from moviegoers, which ranks far below Wan’s usual standards.
