The show is inspired by Devery S. Anderson’s book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement, published in 2015.
Women of the Movement will run for six episodes on ABC in 2021 and follow Mamie Till-Mobley.
She was the mother of Emmett Till, who was brutally killed in 1955 in the Jim Crow South.
Deadline reports that Ray Fisher is on board the series as Gene Mobley, the devoted partner to Mamie who would have been Emmett Till’s stepfather.
