The Mark Ruffalo drama Dark Waters added nearly 2000 theaters to take #6 with $4.1 million for a $5.28 million total.
This was also a landmark weekend for Disney as (according to Deadline) it became the first studio to take in over $10 billion in a calendar year.
It looks likely to cross the $1billion mark by or before next weekend and surpass the original 2013 film’s $1.27 billion shortly after.
Walt Disney Studios’ animated sequel Frozen II continued to dominate at the box office for the third straight weekend as it once again landed at #1 with $34.6 million for a domestic total of $337.5 million and a worldwide cume of $919.6 million.
