The Cannes film festival begins on 17 May, and runs until 28 May when the Palme d’Or will be handed out.
The Cannes film festival kicks off on Wednesday with a familiar mix of big-name auteurs, a sprinkling of Hollywood glamour, and little-known hopefuls aiming to make an impact on one of the biggest stages in world cinema.
After it emerged neither film was due for a cinematic release when the festival was over, French cinema organisations were prompted to protest.
In the same spirit, the festival has included its first virtual reality selection, an installation called Carne y Arena (Flesh and Sand) by Oscar-winning director Alejandro G Iñárritu.
