Deadline reports that Focus Features’ upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic starring Cynthia Erivo has added four new members to its cast.
Filming for the biopic is set to begin this October in Virginia and released worldwide by Focus Features and Universal Pictures.
Based on the story of iconic freedom fighter Harriet Tubman, Harriet follows Tubman (Erivo) on her escape from slavery and subsequent missions to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad in the face of growing pre-Civil War adversity.
Joining the ensemble cast is Vanessa Bell Calloway (Shameless), who will play Tubman’s mother; Zackary Momoh (Seven Seconds), who will play Tubman’s husband; and Deborah Ayorinde (True Detective) and Vondie Curtis-Hall (Marvel’s Daredevil), whose roles are currently unknown.
