While normally it’s rare that the average moviegoer can catch a highly anticipated movie early, but The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part is the latest example in recent months of studios holding special screenings days or weeks before the public premiere.
The Lego Movie 2 is one of the biggest family-friendly releases of 2019, so I can’t blame Warner Bros for wanting to get in front of some eyes a few weeks ahead of time to get word of mouth buzz going… assuming it’s good, of course.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bumblebee and Aquaman all had early screenings (the latter two as part of an Amazon Prime promotion), and on January 12, Glass was shown early at Alamo Drafthouse locations as part of a marathon showing Unbreakable and Split beforehand.
