In addition, the new Stephen King adaptation had the all-time biggest opening for an R-rated horror film released in September; it’s also the widest R-rated release of 2017, screening in about 30 more theaters than Logan. This year’s other big King adaptation, The Dark Tower, earned just $7.7 million on its opening night in August, and has grossed just $48 million in the month since.
As The Wrap notes, IT will almost definitely have the biggest opening weekend for any Stephen King adaptation (not surprising, as it might be the best King adaptation ever made).
