The news follows the recent announcement that Gyllenhaal will also be reteaming with another filmmaker, Antoine Fuqua, on a new thriller titled The Guilty.
The pair worked together on 2015’s Southpaw, starring Gyllenhaal and directed by Fuqua and written by Kurt Sutter.
The pair previously worked together on the crime drama Prisoners — which earned Deakins an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography — and 2013’s mystery thriller Enemy.
During an interview with cinematographer Roger Deakins on the Team Deakins podcast, Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Spider-Man: Far From Home) revealed that he and Oscar-nominated director Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Arrival) are reuniting on a secret project.
