Sony’s decision to move the superhero over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tom Holland’s stand-out performance in Captain America: Civil War and the all-round awesomeness of the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailers has only increased anticipation for the latest reboot of the character, and fans will be chomping at the bit to see it when it arrives on July 7.
There’s every chance that the spring will be taken out of James Gunn’s step later this summer when Spider-Man: Homecoming is eventually released.
That’s as long as the reviews for the film are impressive.
That’s because the least successful installment of the five previous Spider-Man films was the distinctly average The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which still managed to gross $708 million at the box office back in 2014.
