Bayona is a fantastic director with plenty to prove, and his sensibilities remind me of early Steven Spielberg, so plugging him into the Jurassic World universe makes all the sense in the world.
Jurassic World 2 made a brilliant move when it hired J.A. Bayona to direct.
The filmmaker is coming off of the brilliant and heartwrenching A Monster Calls, but his resume is stacked with outstanding genre fare like The Impossible (where he recreated a tsunami) and The Orphanage, a horrifying ghost story that needs to be seen.
