After months of rumors swirling about a possible third film in the sci-fi franchise starring the Suicide Squad alum, Deadline has brought word that Disney has begun developing a new Tron film with Garth Davis (Lion) set to direct Jared Leto.

With the sequel garnering a major cult following, Kosinski reassured multiple times over the years that a Legacy follow-up hadn’t been scrapped by the studio, with rumors swirling in early 2017 that Leto was being eyed for a new character in the new film, though word began to dim in the following months.
Released in 2010, Legacy was a box office hit, grossing over $400 million at the global box office on its $170 million, but given the film’s mixed reviews and the following financial disappointment of the George Clooney-starring Tomorrowland, Disney put a hold on the threequel.
