After years of teasing that they wanted to make a sequel to MacGruber, star Will Forte and director Jorma Taccone have taken to Twitter to reveal that they have, in fact, just started writing MacGruber 2!
The “MacGyver” parody was originally created by Taccone and Forte as interstitial segments for “Saturday Night Live,” until Taccone directed and Forte starred in the film version in 2010.
Taccone’s last comedy Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping came out in June and grossed $9.4 million.
Produced by Universal Pictures and Relativity Media, the original MacGruber co-starred Ryan Phillippe, Kristen Wiig, Val Kilmer, Powers Boothe and Maya Rudolph.
