The founder of the #MeToo movement has said the campaign she started against sexual violence has become unrecognisable and misrepresented as a vindictive plot against men.
“Suddenly, a movement to centre survivors of sexual violence is being talked about as a vindictive plot against men,” she told the audience.
“My vision for the #MeToo movement is part of a collective vision to see a world free of sexual violence,” she said.
Tarana Burke, an American civil rights activist, started the campaign in 2006 with the goal of providing support to survivors of sexual violence in her community.
