Production continues on the upcoming Godzilla sequel from Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros., and director Mike Dougherty has revealed a new photo from the set that features an interesting Easter egg connecting it to the original film. Dougherty’s photo shows what Godzilla fans will recognize as the Oxygen Destroyer from the 1954 film.
A presentation of Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, the sequel is currently scheduled for release in March 2019, and will be distributed in 3D and 2D and in select IMAX theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, except in Japan, where it will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.
Developed by the film’s Dr. Serizawa, the device removes oxygen from whatever body of water it is placed in and was used to destroy Godzilla in in the feature.
When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
