Netflix has announced it’s acquired the rights to The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, the directorial debut of Chiwetel Ejiofor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in 12 Years a Slave.
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind follows 13-year-old William Kamkwamba, he builds a windmill which saves his Malawian village from famine.
The film is based on the book by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, with Ejiofor writing the film’s screenplay.
The film will have a brief theatrical run in 2019, when it will also premiere on the streaming service.
