Bleecker Street has revealed the first trailer for the upcoming remake of Papillon, starring Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim) and Emmy winner Rami Malek (Mr. Robot, Bohemian Rhapsody).
Determined to regain his freedom, Papillon forms an unlikely alliance with a convicted counterfeiter Louis Dega (Rami Malek), who in exchange for protection, agrees to finance Papillon’s escape.
Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, the original Papillon was released in 1973 and adapted Henri Charrière’s 1970 autobiography.
The title, the french word for butterfly, refers to Charrière’s own tattoo, which earned him the nickname.
