Apparently, the events of Picard will tie into J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek film.
Beginning in 1987, Patrick Stewart led the Star Trek: The Next Generation series for seven seasons before transitioning to movies movies with Star Trek: Generations (1994), Star Trek: First Contact (1996), Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) and Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) as well as Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘s pilot “Emissary.”
Picard will mark the first Star Trek story to take place after those events, which will see a significant change in the galaxy’s power dynamic.
Also executive producing are Heather Kadin of Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment President Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, and Roddenberry Entertainment COO Trevor Roth.
