Variety reports director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Flight, Forrest Gump) is in final negotiations with Warner Bros. to direct The Witches, a feature film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel.
The Witches was previously adapted into a film in 1990 from director Nicolas Roeg and starring Anjelica Huston, Jasen Fisher, Mai Zetterling, and Rowan Atkinson.
Academy Award winners Alfonso Cuaron (The Revenant, Gravity) and Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water, Pan’s Labyrinth) will produce as well, with del Toro having previously been attached to direct.
The Oscar winning Zemeckis is currently at work on his next film, Welcome to Marwen, starring Steve Carell.
