Although Homecoming still has plenty of room to grow, it has already pushed the MCU past the $12 billion mark at the worldwide box office – specifically to $12.028 billion, according to Box Office Mojo.
Although summer blockbusters – such as Baywatch and Alien: Covenant – have fallen by the wayside at the domestic box office, superhero movies are braving the storm.
At this point, though, Spider-Man: Homecoming is looking like a hit for both Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, the latter of which will greatly benefit from increased merchandise sales thanks to the movie.
Not only has the character’s merchandise sales previously surpassed the Avengers’ but also that each previous Spidey movie has grossed more than $700 million worldwide (even The Amazing Spider-Man 2), without any connection to the MCU.
