Now, the network has announced that they will reboot the show, taking it back to its roots with a 2D animated series.
Nickelodeon nabbed the turtles in 2012, and created the current CGI series, introducing a whole new generation of fans of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael.
Since the original animated series of 1987, the turtles have rarely been off the air.
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may not be doing well on the big screen (last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows underperformed at the box office, and it looks like a third installment in the franchise is unlikely to happen), but the long-running franchise is still a big hit on the small screen.
