Whether Affleck’s rehab program had anything to do with his decision to drop out as director of The Batman is unknown.
Ben Affleck debuted as Batman in last year’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, reprising the role in a couple of scenes in Suicide Squad.
By the end of the year, it appeared that Affleck would be starring in, and directing, a standalone Batman film called The Batman, with production likely to start in 2017, on top of appearances in Justice League and other upcoming films in the DCEU series.
So far this year, Affleck has dropped out of directing The Batman — with Matt Reeves stepping in to replace him — although Affleck, despite rumors, is still on board to play the Caped Crusader, with production now likely to begin at some point in 2018.
