The full season of Luke Cage hits Netflix on Sept. 30, and I’m mad hyped for it.
Netflix’s upcoming superhero series Marvel’s Luke Cage takes place in Harlem, the neighborhood that may have been the birthplace of “mad.”
It’s a New York City metro area expression meaning “a lot” or “very,” similar to Northern California’s “hella” or New England’s “wicked.”
As a typically self-absorbed person from New York, I only recently realized that “mad” is not common vernacular among most Americans.
