He got his foot back in the superhero door when he started helping Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick write Deadpool 2, and presumably that’s what helped in score the X-Force gig.
Drew Goddard had built a solid resume of movie and television work like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, Cloverfield and The Martian, but his journey to overseeing a superhero project has been bumpy.
State of Affairs’ Joe Carnahan was previously attached as the X-Force writer, but with Goddard now on board, it’s unclear if any of Carnahan’s material will be kept.
He was originally the showrunner for Netflix’s Daredevil, but he departed the TV series and passed along those duties to Steve DeKnight (Goddard is still credited as an executive producer and for writing the first two episodes).
