The Oscar-winning British film-maker Tom Hooper will direct a big-screen adaptation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, reports Variety.
Based on TS Eliot’s 1939 poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is the fourth-longest-running musical in the West End and on Broadway.
Hooper, best known for The King’s Speech, Les Misérables and The Danish Girl, will team up with studio Universal and production company Working Title on the new film.
Cats debuted in the West End in 1981, with Trevor Nunn directing and Gillian Lynne providing choreography.
