After plenty of anticipation, Sony’s big-screen adaptation of the popular Naughty Dog video game Uncharted finally hit theaters and exceeded expectations.
Elsewhere, the Channing Tatum vehicle Dog, which earned better reviews than Uncharted, likewise leaped over expectations with a $15.1 million 3-day/$18.05 million 4-day, while last week’s champ, the star-studded Death on the Nile, dropped -51% for a $6.25 million 3-day/$7.18 million 4-day to bring its domestic total to $25.9 million.
Each of those films went on to gross over $100 million, which, aside from Pokémon, was enough to grant a sequel.
Comparatively, Sonic the Hedgehog earned $58 million in 2020, Pokémon Detective Pikachu earned $54 million in 2019, and Laura Croft: Tomb Raider collected $47 million in 2001.
