Though the film does seem to be very similar to a film that had already treaded similar subject matter: Fox’s The Book of Life.
While Pixar’s name will undoubtedly draw attention to Coco, it’s hard to put aside the fact that the 2014 animated film will undoubtedly draw more than a couple comparisons.
Both films deal with the “forbidden” art of music, as well as deal very heavily with imagery that reflects the artistic aesthetic of the Day of the Dead celebration.
How much Coco actually covers the same ground Book of Life did is yet to be seen, but again, this first trailer should give us at least enough information to figure out how we’ll differentiate the two films.
