Sonic the Hedgehog 2 lit up the domestic box office this weekend, scoring a $71 million three-day opening that surpasses the original’s start.
Internationally, Sonic raked in another $37 million thus bringing its overseas total to $70 million and worldwide sum to a massive $141 million.
Michael Bay’s Ambulance, meanwhile, was left on life support, earning just $8.7 million domestically after hauling in just $3.3 million on Saturday.
According to Deadline, the total is enough to top Bruce Almighty’s $68 million opening in 2003, making the video game sequel Jim Carrey’s biggest opening to date.
