A Netflix mini-series about Colin Kaepernick is taking extra security measures after receiving a threat from far-right group The Proud Boys, who were planning to protest last Friday at the production shoot.
Two production assistants also claimed that a suspicious phone call was made to the production office.
“With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally,” DuVernay said last June.
The football quarterback made headlines in 2016 when he refused to stand during a playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
