Per Deadline, the 1981 film rights have landed with Michael Ellenberg’s Media Res and Bron Studios, despite film and TV outlets like Lionsgate, Paramount and Skydance all interested in the property.
Iconic ‘80s sci-fi horror film Scanners is next on the docket for a TV reboot, after spending years in development hell.
For those unfamiliar, the David Cronenberg-written and directed Scanners followed telepaths and telekinetics hunted by private security firm ConSec, who also had a hand in their creation.
No network is yet attached to a Scanners reboot, though Ellenberg and Bron will “develop and package the TV series adaptation with a high-end filmmaker and showrunner before shopping it to premium services.”
