Today we have word that the studio wants Dwayne Johnson to star in their modern update of The Wolf Man. Buried within Deadline’s report about Dwayne Johnson setting up another project at Sony entitled Son of Shaolin, the site claims there are “persistent rumors” that Universal wants the actor to portray the title character, although it isn’t clear when that project may get off the ground.
The Wolf Man franchise was launched in 1941 with Lon Chaney Jr. playing the title character, which spawned Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943), House of Frankenstein (1944), House of Dracula (1945) and Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948), which all featured the Wolf Man. Universal also tried rebooting the property in 2010 with The Wolfman starring Benicio Del Toro.
We’ll be sure to keep you posted about whether or not Dwayne Johnson is even able to fit a Wolf Man movie into his schedule.
The studio is reportedly also working on reboots of The Invisible Man, which has Johnny Depp attached to star, Van Helsing, Frankenstein and much more.
